The fine print

Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of the Match Counsel website and attorney-matching service. Please read them carefully — especially the sections explaining that Match Counsel is a referral service and not a law firm.

Last updated: June 25, 2026

Important: Match Counsel is a referral and attorney-matching service. Match Counsel is NOT a law firm, does not practice law, and does not provide legal advice or representation. Using Match Counsel does not create an attorney-client relationship between you and Match Counsel. An attorney-client relationship is formed only if and when you and an independent attorney separately agree to it in writing.

1. Acceptance of these Terms

By accessing or using the Match Counsel website ("Site") or services, including by registering or submitting any form, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms") and by our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site or our services.

2. Match Counsel is a referral service, not a law firm

Match Counsel is an attorney-matching and lawyer-referral service. Match Counsel is not a law firm and is not a lawyer. We do not practice law, we do not provide legal advice, opinions, or representation, and nothing on this Site should be construed as legal advice. The attorneys to whom we may refer you are independent third parties who are solely responsible for the legal services they provide. Any information we present is general in nature and is not a substitute for advice from a licensed attorney.

3. No attorney-client relationship

Using Match Counsel, registering, submitting your information, or being connected with an attorney through our network does not create an attorney-client relationship between you and Match Counsel. Match Counsel cannot and does not form an attorney-client relationship with you because it is not a law firm. An attorney-client relationship with an independent attorney is created only if and when you and that attorney mutually agree to it, typically through a separate written engagement or representation agreement. Until then, communications you have through or with Match Counsel are not protected by the attorney-client privilege and should not include time-sensitive or confidential legal details you are not comfortable sharing.

4. What our service does

Match Counsel collects the information you provide and uses it to connect you with one or more independent attorneys or law firms in our legal partner network whose practice areas and location may fit your described needs. We do not control, supervise, or guarantee the work of any attorney, and we are not a party to any agreement you may later enter into with an attorney. Our service is free to you; we may receive marketing or referral fees from attorneys and partners in our network.

5. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use our services. By using the Site, you represent that you meet these requirements and that the information you provide is your own, accurate, and complete.

When you register and check the consent box, you agree that Match Counsel and its marketing partners may contact you at the email address and phone number you provided — including by marketing emails, calls, and text messages sent using automated technology and/or prerecorded messages — about relevant products and services. Consent is not a condition of any purchase. Message and data rates may apply, and you may reply STOP to opt out of texts or use the unsubscribe link in emails. We use a double opt-in process: your registration is complete only after you click the verification link we email you. See our Privacy Policy for details on how we handle and share your information and how to exercise your privacy rights.

7. Your responsibilities

  • Provide accurate, current, and complete information when you register.
  • Use the Site and services only for lawful purposes and your own legal needs.
  • Independently evaluate, and decide whether to engage, any attorney we connect you with.
  • Not misuse, scrape, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Site.

8. Independent attorneys

Attorneys and law firms in our network are independent contractors, not employees, agents, or partners of Match Counsel. They are solely responsible for their own licensure, advice, fees, and the legal services they provide. Match Counsel does not endorse, recommend, or warrant any particular attorney, and your decision to hire an attorney is entirely your own.

9. No guarantees

We do not guarantee that you will be matched with an attorney, that any attorney will accept your matter, or that any particular legal outcome will result. Past results described anywhere on the Site do not guarantee or predict similar outcomes in your matter.

10. Disclaimers

The Site and services are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Match Counsel and its officers, employees, and partners will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising out of or relating to your use of the Site, our matching service, or any services provided by an independent attorney. Match Counsel is not responsible for the acts, omissions, advice, or services of any attorney in its network.

12. Changes and termination

We may modify these Terms at any time by posting the updated version on this page and revising the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance. We may also suspend or discontinue the Site or services, in whole or in part, at any time.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which Match Counsel is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts having jurisdiction in that location, unless otherwise required by applicable law.
